This entry is about my experience joining my first ever flatlay contest on instagram, which I tell ya, took a whole lot of guts and my sister’s guts too to join, for I am doing I do best, plunging myself out of my comfort zone *cries a pail*

This was a second contest held by dUckscarves if I’m not mistaken, and alang-alang I have the scarves, why not just join it, I thought, I mean, just flatlays, kan. Boy was i wrong. It was a hard work!

Coming from an architectural background, you bet I did a lot of concept sketch of compositions and layouts to try out. Like all firsts, I poured my heart in this and like all girls entering a contest, I wanted to win. However, the rezeki wasn’t mine and from my time on this planet, I have realized that most of the times, it’s not that you weren’t good enough or the work you have done was not beautiful, it’s just that, are you what they are looking for and whether you fit their criteria at that specific point in time.

With all that, however, I cannot deny my devastation, but on the bright side, I actually did pretty awesome, i could say I definitely exceeded my own expectations, with colour schemes and shoot concepts, which was something different than architectural boards.

Being a true artist, I am proud to share with you some behind the scenes of my flatlay work of art and some never published images on my instagram for the contest.

We purchased La juiceria for the first time to go with our duckscarves flatlay contest. We were test shooting the drinks with MM's teddy bear because she insisted it to be included, and her hands too

Originally my miniature perfume shot, complete with cake to celebrate and melting icecream for the hipster in me. But, this didn’t cut it, used another concept instead. Featuring: dUckscarves “GoldenHoney”

Was going for a merry/festive theme, but I just wasn't feeling it, so didn't publish this one for the contest

Was going for a merry/festive theme, but I was just too hungry for cake I didn’t have time to direct this shoot, and just digged in in no time!

All of my entries were blood sweat and tears for me, and I love them all to bits, but below are some of my favourite flatlays that I submitted for this contest, each for it’s own unique reasons:

One of my fave entries! Mainly because I love everything in this pic, but mainly Peach! and Kier of DVF S1 liked this pic! Featuring; dUckscarves Orange Sorbet

One of my faves mainly because I love everything in this pic, but mainly Peach! and Kier Mellour, my fave of House of DVF S1 liked this pic! Made my entire week, I tell ya! Featuring; dUckscarves Peach Sorbet

You can never say no to a monochrome<3 Wore this ensemble to Yaya’s wedding in Family Trip to Kuantan

My all time favourite; "What colours are you made of?"

My all time favourite; “What colours are you made of?” The story behind this shoot was hilarious as I was rushing to meet the deadline of the contest and I didn’t know the Harimau Malay original shirt isn’t readily available in stores when not in season. Quickly I had to borrow one of my student’s and the Harimau Malaya banner, was made of sharpie on yellow architectural tracing paper *peaceandout*
