This entry is about my experience joining my first ever flatlay contest on instagram, which I tell ya, took a whole lot of guts and my sister’s guts too to join, for I am doing I do best, plunging myself out of my comfort zone *cries a pail*
This was a second contest held by dUckscarves if I’m not mistaken, and alang-alang I have the scarves, why not just join it, I thought, I mean, just flatlays, kan. Boy was i wrong. It was a hard work!
Coming from an architectural background, you bet I did a lot of concept sketch of compositions and layouts to try out. Like all firsts, I poured my heart in this and like all girls entering a contest, I wanted to win. However, the rezeki wasn’t mine and from my time on this planet, I have realized that most of the times, it’s not that you weren’t good enough or the work you have done was not beautiful, it’s just that, are you what they are looking for and whether you fit their criteria at that specific point in time.
With all that, however, I cannot deny my devastation, but on the bright side, I actually did pretty awesome, i could say I definitely exceeded my own expectations, with colour schemes and shoot concepts, which was something different than architectural boards.
Being a true artist, I am proud to share with you some behind the scenes of my flatlay work of art and some never published images on my instagram for the contest.
All of my entries were blood sweat and tears for me, and I love them all to bits, but below are some of my favourite flatlays that I submitted for this contest, each for it’s own unique reasons:
